My Mission Statement

I write to serve, to unite, to educate. I write to share literature and flesh out ideas that may be of interest to others. I write to document an emotion, experience, or a blip in time. My mission is to write in such a way that the reader is reminded that we can find humor in all situations. It's one of the great blessings of life.

Chilly Poetry Friday

Temperatures have plummeted all over, so what better topic for some morning poetry. Everything seems crisper and more beautiful when it's cold. What's the Emily Dickinson poem? Snow Beneath Whose Chilly Softness? Who wouldn't want to write a little poetry? I started with a haiku:

Frosty lace patterns
Adorn the glass touched by cold
Magic sparkling lense

Then I couldn't resist something lighter:

Oh, no! Why didn’t it snow?
I did my jumping jacks, you know.
I wore my pajamas inside out, danced a snow dance and cut snowflakes out.
All the kids know that’s the way to get snow!
Oh, no! Why didn’t it snow?

Pause this morning for a poetry moment in your own life. Creativity yields productivity. (I just made that up, actually)

Please share! I'm hoping to reconnect with my old poetry Friday regulars. Sorry I've been a little off schedule. Help me get back on track!

p.s. I'm reading THE BOOK THIEF. Brilliant. Amazing. The kind of book you want to take your time with, let it all sink in. But it will be finished soon. SO I"m looking for suggestions for my next read. Any ideas? MG, YA or anything. Even a brand new picture book you love, suggest the best you've read lately! djk

I think you should send the snow wish poem to Highlights. It's cute and would be darling illustrated. If they don't take it, try Cricket or one of their mags.

I've missed our Friday get togethers! Here is my offering. It's a rough cut...but you have to love me anyway. :)

COLD DRAMA

Sunshine rays
yield snowless days
and saddened little scholars

but puffy clouds
and dropping temps
bring smiles and joyous hollars

"Come on, Snow!"
They cheer and shout -
"Our sleds await your coming!"

Then if falls...
and little noses
fingers, toes are numbing!

Smiles as big as
Saturns rings
they have a snowball fight

Down-up, Up-down,
Ms. Rosa's hill
they'll all sleep good tonight!

Snow filled mornings
bring dire warnings
"School is closed all week!"

Mommies sigh
and watch the sky
and pray the temperature peaks!

You're very kind, Dorothy, but where's YOUR poem? I KNOW you've got it in you!

hey gal! Thanks for crowning me Queen of the poetry Fridays...but I don't think I can accept. My poem, as I said, is VERY rough. I'm itching to revise it as I type. So, I'm more like the court jester. LOL!! The tiara belongs to you!

Hugs,
Donna
