My Mission Statement

I write to serve, to unite, to educate. I write to share literature and flesh out ideas that may be of interest to others. I write to document an emotion, experience, or a blip in time. My mission is to write in such a way that the reader is reminded that we can find humor in all situations. It's one of the great blessings of life.

Post-Holiday Lethargy

Well, I had a house full of whiners this morning (myself including). Get up and out? Shower? Put on shoes? It all seemed just ludicrous after our relaxing week-end. Every child had a reason why he or she should stay home from school. Can't find my shoes. I'm about to get a cold. I'm just so hungry; I'll never make it to lunch. And so on.

My Christmas cards came in, so I need to put them together and send them out. They're a little campy this year, but I love them because it just looks like a regular day. And that's what the kiddos really look like. So my oldest son has a skull on his shirt--I don't think anyone will notice, right? The flames around it look kind of like tinsel, maybe. Oh, well.

11 days until the Christmas tour, and my house is a sty. No kidding. But today, I plan to make a serious dent in it. In spite of the tour, I plan to enjoy the season and take everything as it comes. Even though my 8th grader has taken to calling me EVERY DAY to bring something to her at school. But not today. I don't care if she forgot the hand she writes with, I'm staying in this house to work. It's funny because at the holidays, you want your house to be clean and decorated, so you can enjoy it. But during the times that you should be CLEANING and DECORATING, all I want to do is go out and enjoy the Christmasness of everything.
It's so fun being out and about during a holiday season. For example, last week, I had to go to the grocery store for some forgotten items the day before Thanksgiving. I dreaded it, knowing it would be insane, and it was, but it was so fun. Everyone was in great spirits, sharing recipes, wishing each other a Happy Thanksgiving. If I'd stayed home and cleaned my house, I'd have missed it.

This will have to be my motivating point for getting this house straight. Get it organized and keep it straight for the holidays, so I can go out and not have major crunch time at the end. That's my plan, so what's yours?

Redneck Tip for Christmas Decorating:
1. Just do it.

Have a great day.
