My Mission Statement

I write to serve, to unite, to educate. I write to share literature and flesh out ideas that may be of interest to others. I write to document an emotion, experience, or a blip in time. My mission is to write in such a way that the reader is reminded that we can find humor in all situations. It's one of the great blessings of life.

Poetry Friday for YOU

Writing is an effective type of therapy. When you write about a troublesome topic, you often work out an acceptable solution or just gain peace from fleshing it out. Another way writing can be used as therapy is simply as a stress reliever. So stop right now, and take a moment to write a little poem with me. I love you, my readers, so much that I have prepared a simply poetry lesson for you (well, actually thanks to a great website--google 51 types of poetry). So give it a shot.

We're going to try an ABC Poem which is defined as a poem that has five lines that create a mood, picture, or feeling. Lines 1 through 4 are made up of words, phrases or clauses while the first word of each line is in alphabetical order. Line 5 is one sentence long and begins with any letter.

I'll give it a shot.

Awe-inspiring
Breath-taking
Cloud-peeking
Darkness-squelching
The early morning sun appears over the Roanoke Sound.

Now I gave it a twist with the hyphenated words, so feel free to twist as you like (shake it, baby). Just notice the ABCD then any letter. Now you don't have to start with A. Start with any letter, just be successive. I LOVE tight perameters because it really gets your juices flowing, creatively.

Have a wonderful Friday. I am at the cottage for the day attending a scrapbooking workshop kind of thing. I'm doing it out of a sense of duty to my children and the ever-growing piles of pictures put to no use whatsoever. We'll see how it turns out. Needless to say, this is NOT really my kind of thing. So wish me luck! xoxox

AND DON'T FORGET TO POST YOUR POEM IN THE COMMENTS!!

BTW - your poem is very, VERY nice. beautiful word picture! The last line hooked me! :)

okay, one last revision. :)
I'll even combine all three on this comment and delete the other two so they don't take up so much room. :)

1st version
Every mountain peak reaching
Fountains of water rushing
Gushing volcanoes exploding
His Glory unleashed upon the earth
And I am undone.

2nd version
Every mountain peak crumbling
Forging waters rushing
Gushing volcanoes exploding
His Glory unleashed upon the earth
And I am undone.

3rd version
Every mountain peak crumbling, bowing
Forging water rushing, running
Gushing volanoes unable to contain their praise
His Glory unleashed upon the earth
and I am undone

my husband says 'eh'. None are better or worse than the rest. :)

Love both of your poems. Mine isn't as awe inspiring but here is my attempt.
Quilts cozying
Rakes raking
Sweaters bundling
Temperatures dropping
Fall boldly arrives.
