My Mission Statement

I write to serve, to unite, to educate. I write to share literature and flesh out ideas that may be of interest to others. I write to document an emotion, experience, or a blip in time. My mission is to write in such a way that the reader is reminded that we can find humor in all situations. It's one of the great blessings of life.

Poetry Friday yee haw!

It's Poetry Friday and Halloween, so why not combine the two? Write a spooky poem or a silly poem about the season. I've chosen a rhyme template for you to copy if you like to make it fun and easy. Here's the template:
Trick or Treat
Smell my Feet
Give me something good to eat.

If you don't
I don't care
I'll pull down your underwear.

Okay, not exactly a Shakespearean sonnet, but you get the gist. Fun and rhymey and the real point here is rhythm. So let's see what you've got!

I'll start. My first example is not exactly Halloweeny, but it popped into my head this morning.

Rise and shine
Breakfast time
Don't wear this, but that's just fine.

Try to find
Shoes--not MINE
Fit for gym and stop that whine.

Okay, now you've had some insight into my morning. Let me try a more seasonal effort.

Ding dong ding
Hear us sing
Treat or treat til sweets you bring.

Porch love fest
For the dressed
We leave everyone impressed.

Bedtime's nigh
Sugar high
Hope I'll sleep while moon's in sky.

Need to rest
But I profess
This Halloween was the best.

Okay, lame-o for me this week, but I KNOW my readers will take it up a HUGE notch. Please everyone participate. Defeat Dementia by using your brain! xoxox

p.s. NaNoWriMo starts tomorrow. I'll be keeping you abreast of my word count on my blog. I'm very nervous. Everyone pray for me, please.

wrapped up tight
scary night
some are cute
some give a fright

trick or treat
down the street
can't we stop?
My aching feet!

candy here
candy there
fights break out.
why don't you share?

kids are wired
but I'm so tired
who's in charge?
they should be fired

sugar highs
exhausted cries
time for bed?
reluctant sighs

snores abound
what gorgeous sounds!
Now I can eat
my bag of MOUNDS!

(Disclaimer: I'm really more of a kitkat, hershey's bar and snickers kind of gal. But hey - the mounds bar suited the purpose of the poem) :) :)

And yes, my rhythm was off a bit. Sorry. My brain is tooo tired tonight to care!)
