My Mission Statement

I write to serve, to unite, to educate. I write to share literature and flesh out ideas that may be of interest to others. I write to document an emotion, experience, or a blip in time. My mission is to write in such a way that the reader is reminded that we can find humor in all situations. It's one of the great blessings of life.

Poetry Friday

So I'm well into NaNoWriNo. I've got my mc up a tree so to speak, and I'm throwing rocks like crazy, so I need some comic relief this morning.

Our poetry type today is Burlesque. Now it sounds dirty (and I suppose it COULD be, but that's NOT what we're doing), but the objective of Burlesque poetry is to take a serious subject and treat it as a joke. Now I spend my life treating serious subjects with humor, so I'm hoping something will come to me and SOON, so you'll have a good example.

I wish this were interactive, and I could say, "Does anyone out there have a serious subject for me? Anything.." Okay, how about rejection letters. That's pretty serious. And for all you nonwriters out there, rejection letters are love letters from editors, agents, and the like only without the love. This one is a little dark, okay, it's real dark, so just remember, it's HUMOR. It's a JOKE! Not to be taken seriously. Think Saturday Night Live skit...

You've rejected me once, maybe twice.
A third time wouldn't be so nice.

It's not a threat, but I'll pass along
My Cousin Al is big and strong
I've seen your children, small and sweet,
Hope they make it down your street..

All this negativity
Affects your objectivity
Sit and relax, pour some wine
Read my work, and then this time

Think of those children that you adore
And Cousin Al who's just next door.

Okay, this made me laugh. Hope it will make you laugh, too. Throw in your poetic two cents, and have a great week-end. xoxox

I highly recommend that you scroll down this page until you find my recommended links. (sorry it's after all the books--I need to remove some) Click on Sara's blog. On Friday she hosts a lovelier, more sophisticated version of Poetry Friday, and today she gives a link to a great resource you MUST check out. And make sure to listen to the actual poetry reading linked in. It will blow you away. xoxox

I will do this at some point in the near future. I'm too tired to wax poetic today - but I really enjoyed yours! :)

hugs,
Donna
