My Mission Statement

I write to serve, to unite, to educate. I write to share literature and flesh out ideas that may be of interest to others. I write to document an emotion, experience, or a blip in time. My mission is to write in such a way that the reader is reminded that we can find humor in all situations. It's one of the great blessings of life.

A Salute to Veterans Everywhere

As I wake up on this stunningly beautiful Veterans Day, I feel enormously blessed. The children are out of school today, so we have lots of snuggle time. While certainly the economy threatens and Congress entertains corruption, we still live in a great country. We're free to pursue any career we choose, our children have countless opportunities, we can worship wherever and however we choose, and our voice can be heard politically. We owe all these things and much more to our Veterans. Millions of men and women have served this country in a volunteer military to keep us safe and strong. Whether I agree with every course of action is irrelevant. The point is their willingness to serve. I honor them, and ask that they would feel the gratefulness of the American people today.

Many American families have holes in them, even my own, where a young life was tragically lost in battles of long ago. But I join voices everywhere who strive to honor these men and women today. May God bless their families and all the people who were touched by their loss of lives.

Take a moment today and teach your children about our veterans today, so they might honor and appreciate the service of others.

If you'd like to honor a special Veteran today, please put their names in the comments, so we might join you. Have a safe and blessed Veterans Day.

Next year be sure to gather your group and attend the Veteran's Day Service. Mine often needed "encouragement" to attend, but always valued the experience. We are surrounded by those who served, their wives, their children and even their parents.
The speaker today was well-prepared and powerful. He used stirring stories and examples, including this verse from AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL:
"O beautiful for heroes prov'd
In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved,
And mercy more than life."
He said he thought that one was written to veterans. Each branch of service laid a wreath, followed by several family members who laid wreaths in memory of loved ones.
It's a one of a kind lesson that you can build on.
