My Mission Statement

I write to serve, to unite, to educate. I write to share literature and flesh out ideas that may be of interest to others. I write to document an emotion, experience, or a blip in time. My mission is to write in such a way that the reader is reminded that we can find humor in all situations. It's one of the great blessings of life.

In the Magical Land of Children

I am very blessed to live in the magical land of children. In this land, the worst day ever can become the best day ever with simply a favorite flavor of Cheez-its. This is a place where someone discovers miracles every day--like the sound of your own heartbeat, a bunch of roly polies under a rock, teaching the puppy a trick, or making a 100 on a spelling pre-test. In the magical land of children, a week's worth of chores can be traded for half a chocolate bar, a day's use of an ipod is good for sharing something from your closet or packing lunch for your sister. "Doing your job" in the land of children is often keeping the other team's ball out of the net for your team, feeding the cat, or encouraging your brother. In the magical land of children, dirty clothes disappear and clean clothes reappear. The sheets on your bed stay fresh and clean almost as if by magic. New food shows up in the pantry, clean dishes on the table, and sometimes even new clothes hang in your closet.

In this precious world, friends are everything, and school is a place to get them. Home is warm and fuzzy and secure even if your parents bug you sometimes. The world can be big and scary, but you never have to be too scared because God is always with you plus your parents are never too far away. You get lots of accolades for good grades, finished chores, and kindness to siblings, but rarely have to answer to anything earth shattering like a bad investment or being laid off from your job.

It's a good thing--this magical world for children. I want to do everything I can to perpetuate it, so maybe one of them will bring a little magic to the grown-up world. The grown-ups are sorely in need of a little magic these days.

I LOVE this blog. It seems like the words for a beautiful picture book for mothers, packaged like a pb for six year olds. I see it being sold on racks all over America, and especially at Mother's Day, when a grown child wants to say to his/her mother, "I appreciate what you did for me."

Think about it. Has God given you a job? Especially in these days of jobs being lost (three in my extended family--maybe even four) and stock mkt crashes that prohibit old ladies from going to a nice assisted living place that they'd saved for all these years? There's a lot of hurting out there, and I'll bet even dentists are seeing patients putting off visits. This piece you've written is so life assuring, it makes even those of us who didn't strive quite hard enough to be good mothers, feel good inside. OOOX
