My Mission Statement

I write to serve, to unite, to educate. I write to share literature and flesh out ideas that may be of interest to others. I write to document an emotion, experience, or a blip in time. My mission is to write in such a way that the reader is reminded that we can find humor in all situations. It's one of the great blessings of life.

Poetry Friday

I've missed you guys this week. My server has been down about 90% of the time which has really messed me up, but on the upside, kept me off facebook, blog, etc. enough for me to get some serious writing done. A friend and I have been e-mailing our writing goals to each other in the morning, then an update in the afternoon, and that has helped so much. i can't tell you. Just knowing that someone out there will hold me accountable is HUGE to me. So THANKS JODY!

So a little off the cuff poetry this morning, just to get us all going. I've missed your sharing, so get on it this week!

Living the Dream

In a cozy old sweater, I snuggle with coffee
And a battered notebook.
I pour out my heart, my worries and goals
Three pages--no more, no less.
With fingers itching, I reach for my keyboard
Then pause, eyes closed, for a prayer
I open the file where my closest friends wait
To see what I'll give them today.
Torn between loving them and their need for growth
I allow them to trample through trial after trial
Til I can stand it no more, and their changed hearts
Satisfy me and future readers, I hope.
Then I wrap it all up, leaving them poised
to face a new stage of life
Armed with confidence, awareness, primed by their trials
for a future that remains a blank page.

Have a wonderful day and week-end. Happy Valentine's Day. I dare you all to love your sweethearts just right AND find a widow or widower who needs a Valentine, then do it!

9 p.m.
Eyes wide
hopeful
fingers itching
poised over the keys
I linger in front of the blank screen
waiting in blatant expectation for inspiration
to
gently
thump
me
on
the
heart

1 a.m.
glaring at the back
of my eyelids
fingers flopped
poise is nowhere to be found
And inspiration needs to be prepared...

cause
It's gonna
take
more
of
a
smack
on
the
forehead
at
this
point
