My Mission Statement

I write to serve, to unite, to educate. I write to share literature and flesh out ideas that may be of interest to others. I write to document an emotion, experience, or a blip in time. My mission is to write in such a way that the reader is reminded that we can find humor in all situations. It's one of the great blessings of life.

WARNING TO PARENTS

I have an important announcement for parents everywhere. Gone are the days of searching closets, car trunks, and cabinets for hidden Christmas presents. It has come to my attention (through my finely-honed skill of car pool eavesdropping) that there is a new way to search for Christmas gifts.

Listen carefully, parents, because we had a rousing conversation about this subject, and it seems that kids EVERYWHERE are checking the pulse of their Christmas lists without parents even knowing, without even seeing the gifts--e-mail. One kid explained how she checks her mom's e-mail to see the confirmations of the purchase, and lots of other kids chimed in to say that they did that, too! They even said that if they just LOOK at the confirmations but do not click on them, no one can even tell they've checked it. Well, of course, I rushed home to delete all my confirmations on MY e-mail which were hopefully not already observed. AARRGGHH!! It's a new age, folks. Maybe you were already aware of this practice, but it is NEWS TO ME. I asked the kids how they get into their parent's e-mail, but they said it's usually just left on the screen. Hmmmmm....note to self, close out e-mail! My child was noticeably silent thoughout this conversation...

The first of a series of Christmas celebrations will begin tonight in Manteo for me and my family. We are very excited to see cousins and siblings and make merry. Kids are out of school after today, and they've already salted the roads due to an apparent snow FORECAST (yes, you Northerners can laugh now). Hopefully, we'll see a flake or two, but I'm not so sure.

A little personal news: I signed with a literary agent yesterday. I'm very, very excited, and I thank all of you who have encouraged me and cheered me on over this years. It's the best Christmas gift I could have imagined. This is a very exciting new development, and I will keep you posted. Hopefully, it is the beginning of a new phase of writing. For now, I'm just happy to have someone on my team! The really exciting part is my friend, Jody, ALSO just signed with an agent, so it's really cool that we're in this together.

My Christmas list is nearly finished, and kids are out today. They were so excited this morning. I'm happy to have some intense family time for the next couple of weeks. What a blessing. Enjoy your kiddos, too, and I'll check back in with you soon. Can't WAIT to hear what's on your Christmas list. Should we discuss that tomorrow?

That's just wonderful Donna!!! You sounded so low key on your blog, but I know you must have been jumping around like a crazy woman. If not, you're sick from all that open house, staff party, last day of school excitement. Again, I'm so pleased for you. You've worked hard and it's time for you to reap some benefits. Of course I'm wondering who it is and would love to hear the whole story, but I don't like to pry...much. I miss the old group emails about our stuff.
