Is it me? Am I getting old?

So I'm watching the superbowl with friends and lots of youngish children. Even at their age, they're all about seeing the commercials. One of the first commercials in a take on the old superbowl shuffle or one of those teams dancing (might have even been old footage). Anyway, the concept was cute, until a huge football player rear end backs into the camera to show his leopard print thong? Of course, my boys were, like, what's that? And I was, like, what the hell? But, okay, one very strange commercial. It was kind of funny, I guess, if you like that kind of thing. A blip, right? But NO, almost immediately there was ANOTHER commercial about casual Fridays (okay, this one was hilarious) where an office full of middle aged, slightly overweight and definitely out of shape people walked around in tighty whities and uber support bras. A sea of underwear. Strange but funny. Then ANOTHER commercial a short time later, all before half-time mind you, with a group of middle aged men climbed a sand dune in their tighty whities. Yuck. Okay? Enough. Does anyone out there think THAT makes me want to buy their product? After that, even the Doritos grossed me out.

I'm glad for the economy of New Orleans and the Saints win. What a Cinderella story.

This week-end I read THE FOREST OF HANDS AND TEETH by Carrie Ryan. OMIGOSH, what a ride. That story was so intense. I don't even know how to describe it except that it is a powerful read and you should definitely check it out. There's violence but not graphic, intimations of sex (she gets married at one point) but again, nothing graphic. All in all, it's PG on paper, but the things that actually happen are of a wider, more sophisticated scope. It's amazing writing and the story is a thoughtful commentary on how to live your life and the perils of an irresponsible society.

Have a great day, enjoy the sunshine, and do something amazing today.

p.s. By the way, the "wal-mart' in my post title didn't make a bit of difference on Friday. I'm kind of glad that wal-mart didn't have that kind of power after all.
