Random Musings and Redneck Advice

Let me tell you, my husband LOVES the trampoline (when he's on it, he's a wreck when the kids are on it). The purchase of a trampoline may be the best thing that's happened in our marriage. I should have given him a cocktail and a trampoline ages ago. He's exhausted, relaxed, and tapping into that "play" thing that makes everyone feel better. I'm dying to jump, but I'm worried about my ankle. It's so unfair the way women's bodies seem to deteriorate at a faster rate than men's.

And on another topic, I've been thinking a lot about teen pregnancy lately. I worry about some of these kids I see around (why are they always at Wal-Mart) with their mom's screaming at them--not in a normal way, but in a clueless way, and I think, "Do these kids have a shot at all?" I mean, you start life with a teen-age mom whose mom may have been a teen-ager. There seem to be zero parenting skills. Now that's a gross generalization, I know, but stereotypes begin because there does appear to be a pattern. So no offense to anyone, but how can we stop this pattern? I know there's a low incidence of teen pregnancies with female athletes. But any other patterns? Has anyone ever compiled a study on teenage girls who have a beloved dog? Now, don't laugh. But it seems to me that a girl with a dog is less likely to look for affection in unhealthy ways. Maybe we should do some kind of inner city foundation that gives homeless puppies to at-risk teen-age girls. I really think I'm on to something. It would address two issues: ASPCA needs and teen pregnancy issues.

Redneck Parenting Tips:
1. Forget anti-depressants and blood pressure medicine. Get a trampoline. (And I mean for you, the parents!)
2. Give your pre-teen a puppy. Make sure she has ALL the responsibility.
3. Book summer activities at your local rec department NOW. Everything's filling up fast!

Have a great day! xoxox

p.s. I know you're dying to see the post when someone has a broken limb from this darn trampoline. Tell the truth.

I'm glad everyone is enjoying the trampoline. I hope your ankle gets better soon, so that you can enjoy it too! I did a little search on the benefits of jumping and here's what I found:
It increases the capacity for breathing.
It circulates more oxygen to the tissues.
It helps combat depression.
It helps normalize your blood pressure.
It helps prevent cardiovascular disease.
It increases the activity of the red bone marrow in the production of red blood cells.
It aids lymphatic circulation, as well as blood flow in the veins of the circulatory system.
It lowers elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
It stimulates the metabolism, thereby reducing the likelihood of obesity.
It tones up the glandular system, especially the thyroid to increase its output.
It improves coordination throughout the body.
It promotes increased muscle fiber tone.
1. It offers relief from neck and back pains, headaches, and other pain caused by lack of exercise.
2. It enhances digestion and elimination processes.
3. It allows for easier relaxation and sleep.
4. It results in a better mental performance, with sharper learning processes.
5. It relieves fatigue and menstrual discomfort for women.
6. It minimizes the number of colds, allergies, digestive disturbances, and abdominal problems.
7. It tends to slow down aging.

Pretty cool, huh! I guess we all need to get a trampoline next. Of course, the site I found my info. recommends a mini-trampoline, but we're in the 21st century...bigger is better ;). Happy Summer!

PS: I LOVE the idea of giving puppies to at-risk teenage girls!! We could offer it as an elective in Middle School.

You are such an awesome reader, Alison! YES! Great examples and research on why jumping is good. The other five members of my family are jumping as we speak. I, of course, am cleaning up the kitchen and feeding the dog. But I'm happy because they're having a ball. I may need that list when someone gets hurt....to remind me that it's not all bad. BTW I just saw an eastern kingsnake in our yard. A big one, too. Google him, he's one scary cuss. Thanks, Alison, for an awesome comment!
