My Mission Statement

I write to serve, to unite, to educate. I write to share literature and flesh out ideas that may be of interest to others. I write to document an emotion, experience, or a blip in time. My mission is to write in such a way that the reader is reminded that we can find humor in all situations. It's one of the great blessings of life.

A Little Fun

I had a wonderful writing time today. It feels GREAT to be back in the groove--the first time since Chautauqua! And guess what? I didn't feel like it today either. The difference was Linda Sue Park's secret tip--BIC. I swear it works every time. Every time! The key is to stick with it. BIC is the best advice any author has ever given to me, and it's foolproof. Try it, friends. It's amazing how much better I feel when I get all that stuff out of me. The words are hovering there, all the time, just dying to get out, but they're like a difficult child. They need coaxing and the proper respect. And, of course, BIC.

My friend Sara Holmes (and others) are at the awesome SCBWI conference in L.A. this week. Check out Sara's blog (link lower left) to get a few highlights and she links to others who are blogging about it. It's a conference I hope to see in my lifetime, but no time soon, for sure.

Anyway, I thought of Sara today because I FINALLY went to a website she recommended, and I beg you to run, not walk, yourself to this site today. Be prepared with a piece of writing to cut and paste into it. WWW.WORDLE.com . It will produce a cool piece of art, but it's also a great way to check your work for word repetition, etc.

Well, I'm off to take the kids to the new American Girl movie. I can't wait! I've heard it's good, and I always get so many brainstorms during kid movies. I'll take my little notepad.

And I just have to say, if ANYONE is looking for a great vacation spot, come check out the Outer Banks. The weather has been just breathtaking for the past week or so, especially. The water's been clear and a perfect temperature. Feel free to show up on our doorstep anytime! xoxox
