My Mission Statement

I write to serve, to unite, to educate. I write to share literature and flesh out ideas that may be of interest to others. I write to document an emotion, experience, or a blip in time. My mission is to write in such a way that the reader is reminded that we can find humor in all situations. It's one of the great blessings of life.

Poetry Friday!

Exercise all parts of your brain! Keep Alzheimers at bay! Live to be 400 years old! What's the secret? Poetry Friday. Right here and now, YOU can do your part. You have now entered the Brain Gym, and you have just enough time for a good work-out. Don't worry; you won't even need a shower after this work-out.

Today for Poetry Friday, we're going to write an Acrostic poem. Most of us have written acrostic poetry using our own names. (Didn't EVERYONE do that in elementary school?) Today, we're going to write an acrostic poem using the word AUTUMN. (I know there's somebody out there saying, "Can't we just do FALL?" Do whateve you want.) Acrostic poetry need not rhyme, the only stipulation is the first word of each line must begin with corresponding letter. Some people like to write acrostic poems using just one word a line, or it can be your first word. I like the latter, but do it any way you please. The key is to stimulate creativity for a more productive day!

After the glory of summer days
Until the white of winter
The days glow golden
Under ever-emptying trees
My days seem clearer, more focused, more alive
New beginning for the trees and me.

Notice how my first letters spelled AUTUMN? Woo hoo! Please share your poetry on the comments.

And OMIGOSH, I forgot to announce the winner of the anagram contest!!!! I can't believe I forgot! The winner of the Anagram contest is Stephanie Bias, and she wins, what else?, a BOOK! Yee haw! Thanks for all the entries, and congratulations Stephanie! Look for your book!

Okay, you know this is my fave day - poetry day. :) Here is a QUICKIE. So, don't hate me for any editing or content mistakes. :)

All summer long, we wilted
Under the scorching sun, waiting for its passion
To come
Undone--swept away by the seemingly
Mild mannered, yet ever deepening,
Naked love of Fall

(obviously, this is written from the trees and leaves point of view. :) :) )

btw - your poem is lovely. The imagery is beautiful and I love the way you've made Fall a physical new beginning and an emotional new beginning. NICELY DONE! :)

hugs,
Donna
