My Mission Statement

I write to serve, to unite, to educate. I write to share literature and flesh out ideas that may be of interest to others. I write to document an emotion, experience, or a blip in time. My mission is to write in such a way that the reader is reminded that we can find humor in all situations. It's one of the great blessings of life.

Waiting...Snuggle Season

Yesterday during the Esther study I'm doing, we talked about waiting and longing. Apparently the Hebrew word is the same for both, or at least the word used in that spot in the Book of Esther. It's interesting because I definitely feel like I'm doing a little waiting and longing myself these days. However, Nano is keeping me VERY busy. I can't wait to see what's going to happen every day. My writing friend, Jody, recently shared something with me that I want to mention here for all you fellow Nano buds. Maybe she'll comment and say where they came from.

NOBLE TRUTHS FOR WRITERS
1. Writers write
2. Writing is a process
3. You don't know what your writing will be until the end of the process

Those of you who aren't writers are probably, like, well, duh! But those of us who are in it sometimes try to make things a little too complicated. It's good to be reminded of the basics.

I think this is our last week-end full of soccer, then things will calm down a little. Kids definitely need a little break. I love Daylight Savings Time. My husband jogs in the morning. Everyone's a little more perky since it's brighter. And at night, I just love eating dinner a little earlier and snuggling in for the night. Everyone just seems a little calmer and more settled now that the whole back to school craziness has settled out. I call it the snuggle season because we can have a little fire and cuddle up and talk about our days. Kids float in and out of the room, and we have lots more one on one time with them. don't get me wrong, we love the playing outside until bedtime time of year, too, but now I'm ready to draw everyone close again.

Here's the advantage of Snuggle Season:
Everyone is content with a bowl of stew in front of the fire for dinner
Kids seem to want to linger and talk more --get a box of family questions if you don't already have one--great thing to break out this time of year
I don't have to sunscreen everyone all the time
We're in a good school routine by now
We're always readers, but Snuggle Season gives us even more family reading time

It will probably be calm for, what, two weeks? Then the holidays kick in. But I'll enjoy it while it's here.

Our house is on the christmas tour, so I really do need to think about that. Hmmmm...maybe not today. I'm trying to get as much of my Christmas shopping done now, so I can have presents under my tree for the tour AND really relax after the tour.

How are you guys coming with your Christmas lists? Has anyone out there begun? Is anyone finished? Is anyone doing anything different this year? One side of my family is doing the Chinese Gift Exchange this year with a low limit instead of big gifts. I'm so excited about that. I think it will be way more fun.

Everyone snuggle up and have a good week-end. I'm reading THE TIPPING POINT right now by the author of THE OUTLIERS. Fascinating read. Pick it up.

The quote is from the book One Continuous Mistake by Gail Sher and there's a number four:
If writing is you practice, the only way to fail is to not write.

Given this definition the two of us are astounding successes!

Omigosh! You're right. They wouldn't all fit on one notecard over my desk, so #4 was on the second notecard that had fallen behind my printer. I'm so glad to be reminded of #4 AND able to put him back in the right spot. Because I've been wondering about the only way to fail....
